Dopamine (Part 1)

Dopamine hormone is a hormone produced by our brain that makes us feel good or comfortable. Dopamine is produced when we do or we receive something we like. And also when we expect something that gives good taste. So before receiving something we like, the brain has released dopamine hormones. For example when we want to eat our favorite food. Because the brain has anticipated that we will feel good, when eating it, the brain releases dopamine, even before we eat it.

Because dopamine hormones are hormones that give us good feel, this hormone is also can motivate us to do something. Our brain will always look for dopamine. This is the way our brain works to be able to motivate ourselves, to be able to do something. The desire to get dopamine hormones that allows us to wake up and do something.

Almost every thing we do will actually produce dopamine. When we are thirsty, and then we drink cold water. Then the brain will also produce dopamine in return. Even when we release ourselves, the brain will produce dopamine. Another example after cleaning the room, finished exercising or every time we finish on work. Our brain will produce dopamine in return and make us get a form of good feel or satisfaction. This is why dopamine is needed to motivate us to do something.

Dopamine is produced most when we get something good or fun at an unexpected time. The problem is, in this digital age, our brains every day get flooded with the hormone dopamine. Even when we are not aware of it. And we get this dopamine reward without doing anything useful. For example when we are playing social media, playing games on our smart phones. Then we watch the video, chat in the WhatsApp group. These things that cause our brain to be flooded with Dopamine without doing useful things.

We need to know, that our body has a homeostasis system. This means that our body always adjusts balance to certain level conditions. For example when the temperature around us is cold, our body temperature will also come down. Then this homeostasis system will increase our body temperature to be maintained at normal temperatures. Even if it is too cold, our body will start shivering, in order to increase the internal temperature of the body. Likewise, if the temperature around us is hot, then the body temperature will rise, and start sweating to try to reduce our body temperature.

In addition to maintaining the body at a certain level condition, the homeostasis system also works to increase the body's tolerance in a condition. For example people who are not accustomed to drinking alcohol, will be more easily drunk. Compared to people who are used to consume it. Because the level of tolerance or the level of immunity in the alcohol is higher.

Similarly, the dopamine hormone. Our bodies try to maintain the condition of homeostasis. When our brain is accustomed to receiving dopamine in large quantities, the amount becomes a new standard and causes our brain to be more immune or become less sensitive to dopamine.

So all activities that do not produce dopamine in a certain amount, will not make us interested to do it or not make us motivated. And we will feel more lazy and difficult for us to feel happy and appreciate something.

This is a reason why wealth people, accustomed to comfort and too often enjoy various kinds of pleasure of life, instead people who feel the most unhappy and they will try a variety of new things or extreme things to be able to feel happy, feel excited.

Things that for people in general can make feelings of pleasure and happy, for them are ordinary things and cannot give them enough dopamine rewards, to be able to make their brains a feeling of pleasure, good feeling or something that can be enjoyed.

This is why for most people it will be easier to do things like playing video games, scrolling social media, eating junk food. Compared to doing useful things such as reading books, exercising or completing their work. This is also one of the reasons why former drug addicts are difficult to live a normal life.

Their brain immunity against the dopamine hormone is too high so that it does normal things, which for people in general can provide pleasure or pleasure, for former drug addicts, it becomes meaningless, feeling bland and empty. It is difficult for them to feel motivated to do something because their brains will not produce dopamine which is felt to be enough to motivate them to do normal things that people do everyday. Just like former drug addicts, this also happens to people who are addicted to playing games, or addicting to scrolling social media, addicted to watching movies and so on.

When their dopamine tolerance or immunity is too high, they will not be able to feel the rewards from doing things that produce low dopamine, such as from doing useful daily activities.
